Differences between NMN and NR relate to their molecular structures, along with how cells biosynthesize these molecules to create NAD+. Structurally, NMN has an added phosphate group, which makes it a larger molecule than NR.
NR is a precursor of NMN, while NMN is an intermediate to NAD+, since NMN is the last biochemical step before NAD+.
In addition, NMN can be consumed by some enzymes such as CD38 while NR is not. CD38 is an important enzyme for immune cells and NMN can directly be used by it to support immune functions.
To create NAD+, both molecules must enter a cell (see related FAQ: How do cells absorb NMN?). Once inside, NR must convert to NMN before it can be used to create NAD+, whereas NMN can proceed directly down the synthesis pathway. As the final step in the biochemical chain reaction that produces NAD+, NMN is a highly efficient route to restoring NAD+ levels, which in turn supports vital molecular pathways that keep your body running well.
Furthermore, an OECD 408 NMN study, the first of its kind to be undertaken on NMN analyzed the No Observable Adverse Effect Level (NOAEL) of NMN, with results showing NMN-C® to be an extremely well-tolerated option in comparison to other popular NAD+ boosters. Results will be published Q1 2021.

Your NAD+ needs a boost twice a day. Your body’s NAD+ circadian cycle is designed to provide you with the energy your cells need based on periods of activity and rest throughout the day. NAD+ is usually on the increase when you wake up, and generally rises again in the afternoon. To boost your body’s natural energy cycles we recommend taking Elevant Prime NMN Capsules in the morning, followed by another dose in the early afternoon.
