Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) is a ‘helper molecule’ that assists in biochemical transformations, central to metabolism that is found in all living cells. What is NMN-C®?

NMN-C® acquired self-affirmed GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) status in accordance with stringent US FDA regulatory guidelines in November 2020. The Self GRAS review was performed by an independent panel of toxicology and nutrition experts, which rigorously evaluated research studies and toxicology data on NMN-C® and concluded that it is not harmful under its intended conditions of use (UL of 2.2mg per pound for humans, i.e. 300mg for a 135 pounds adult).

How do cells absorb NMN?
Our Chief Scientist Alessia Grozio was leading the team groundbreaking discovery that an NMN transporter called Slc12a8 is highly effective at delivering NMN directly to your cells. Researchers have shown over the last decade that increasing NAD+ with NMN in aged mice extends lifespan and improves cardiac, brain, liver and kidney function, bone density, insulin sensitivity and physical endurance.
The question of how cells take up NMN to make NAD+ remained unanswered until recently. Dr. Grozio and her team identified a previously unknown pathway used by NMN to restore NAD+ levels. They found that a protein named Slc12a8 can transport NMN through the cell wall directly into most of the cells, helping to explain how mammals absorb and manufacture NAD+ from NMN.
The discovery of this transporter has opened the door to exciting new possibilities for improving NAD+ boosting, which we are exploring with Dr Grozio and a team of leading NAD+ experts around the world. Learn more in our "research" page.
